Over the years, I had collected handwritten notes that I had found on the street – dirty, faded, crumpled pieces of paper of all kinds, in all sizes and colours. They contained all kinds of texts, such as shopping lists, telephone numbers, messages to loved ones, hastily scribbled in almost indecipherable letters with a biro, carefully written with an expensive pen, or laboriously put down with a heavy hand.
Although I was fascinated by their aesthetics, I was even more interested in their literary potential, a beautiful, involuntary, almost Dadaist quality that revealed itself in their (mis)conception as poetry – which prompted me to publish a selection from my more than 600 collected notes in these two volumes.
