I wish I was a curator

If the curator is the new artist and the curatorial concept is the actual work of art, if the participating artists then do only provide material illustrating it – then many things become questionable. What about the much-vaunted autonomy of artists and works of art? In which ways are (power) relationships between curators and artists constituted? Which ethos characterizes the work of curators and / with artists? Who wants to be an artist, who wants to be a curator and why?

“I wish I was a curator” – a wish full of ambiguity and ambivalence, an individual fantasy and in this eponymous exhibition with a double twist: aspiring curators as producers, the artist as curator. Is this just another turn in the meta-carrousel of art? Or does it not rather testify to an existential desire – alive in those who devote themselves to art?
